"Ah... an end, a beginning. Around we go."
— Echo to Rei
"I was someone once, but no longer. Now I am merely an Echo.
— Echo to Rei

Echo is one of the two halves of Rei that was split from her original form by the Starseed upon its first activation inside of the Ultravoid, thus creating the time-loop. For eons, Echo was plagued and tormented, as Rei was being able to accept her planet was gone and re-activating the Starseed, and Echo spent all that time attempting to convince her to deactivate it instead.

When Rei was finally convinced to deactivate and destroy the Starseed, Echo saved Rei by pulling her out of her Wretched Rei form and re-merged with with her to form her original form.

History[]

Physical appearance[]

Echo appears as a white giant, with arms that are cut so that only parts of them remain, and a torso whose chest is pierced by a massive, long, golden blade. She drips purple blood.

Personality[]

Echo, seen as initially threatening, is eventually revealed as concerned and eager to save Rei from the time loop. She has witnessed the loop a multitude of times already and foresees not just Rei's future, but also her own suffering, to which she refers to proceeding each battle against a remnant. Echo warns Rei, and further grows more and more tiresome and aggravated the more she does not listen and trust her. In the climax of the story when Rei decides to destory the Starseed, Echo experiences a moment of shock, as this becomes the first moment where she no longer knows what happens next; thus, Rei has broken the time loop. In efforts to rescue Wretched Rei, Echo demonstrates the tenacity of a true heroine. She understands saving, rather than slaying, the final remnant, is the only way to truly save her broken, other half. After releasing Wretched Rei of her pain, the two halves merge at last. Together, they live in harmony and possess a greater understanding of the Ultravoid, or in other terms, their new world.
